Introduction

In 2001 James accepted the call to full time ministry and began serving at a church in North East Georgia. He served there for four years before returning to Port Charlotte. James began his ministry at First Baptist as the Student Minister Associate under the leadership of Errol Morgan. He has now accepted the position as Student Minister and is thrilled to be serving First Baptist.

Where were you born and raised?

Right here in the metropolis of Port Charlotte, Florida.

How large is the family you grew up in?

I am the youngest of four, with three older sisters.

When and how did you come to know Christ?

When I was eight years old I gave my life to Jesus during V.B.S.

What was the first job you ever had?

I began cutting grass when I was 10. From 10 to 18 I cut anyone and everyone's lawn that I could...It paid my way through my first year of college!

Where did you go to college?

Toccoa Falls College, Toccoa Falls, Georgia.

When and to whom did you get married?

While growing up at First Baptist of Port Charlotte I met my future wife Karen. Karen and I have been married for 10 years (as of 2010) and have two beautiful children; Andy and Clara.

How many children do you have?

Andy who is seven and Clara who is four. (As of 2010)

How did you get into ministry?

I was asked to teach a 7-8th grade boys Sunday School class when I was 21...I haven't left since!

Have you ever done any long- or short-term missionary work?

These have been some of the best experiences I have ever had! In the U.S. I have been to Savannah GA., Muncie IN., and Keokuk IA., on Mission trips. Out of the U.S. I have been to Venezuela, and Equador.

Before coming to serve at First Baptist where else had you served?

Toms Creek Baptist Church, Martin, Georgia

Who are your favorate sports teams?

I am a Dolphins fan during football season, a Braves fan during baseball season, and always a Tarpon!

What do you like best about your job?

The donuts on Tuesday morning, random "Peeps" in my office, there is always coffee available, and I work with some of the most awesome people on the planet!

What's your favorite Bible verse?

Right now...Ephesians 1:13-14

What do you like to do with your free time?

Do pretty much anything with Karen, hang with my kids, swim, surf, read, laugh, watch movies, drink Mountain Dew and eat Oreo's!

Is there something about you that people would be surprised to learn?

I have never seen the movie E.T., I have a coin collection of rare Silver Dollars, and I can't ride a unicycle.
