The Lord is My Composer

When I reflect back on my life, I am humbled by the many blessings that the Lord has allowed in my life. I had the opportunity to be born into a Christian home. My parents took me to church from the time I was two weeks old. Our home centered around love, God's Word, and our church. I think because of my parents' early training, I became aware of my sin problem at a very early age and began asking my mother questions about Jesus, the Cross, and what I needed to do to get saved.

Although I do not recall the exact day, I do recall the exact moment of my salvation. I went into my "prayer closet" as a six-year-old child and humbly asked for God's forgiveness for my sin and for Jesus to come into my heart. As soon as I had prayed, I told my mother. During that week our pastor visited me in my home and confirmed that I did know what I had prayed and understood what Jesus had done for me. After a six week training time of talking about salvation and baptism, I was baptized at my church. It is miraculous to me how few memories we hold onto from our childhood, but this memory is as clear to me as the day that it happened.

I grew in my knowledge of the Lordship of Christ and at the age of twelve, I surrendered to whatever God wanted me to do with my life during a camp service. I believe that this moment of surrender and obedience has produced many blessings in my life. I know that the Lord blessed me with two children who also know and love the Lord. As I look at my life, I want to see it as Christ sees it. One day as I was reading Psalm 23, I had this moment when I put this Psalm into my own words, and I think that this describes my testimony in a way that reflects what God has done in my life.

          The Lord is my Composer
And all of the notes in my life are in tune.
Many of the themes are in major keys,
And hearing them restores me and brings rest and harmony.
His melodies soar bringing glory to His name.
Even though occasionally, the keys are minor,
          I will not fear dissonance,
          For You are with me.
You allow me to sing and play my song
In the presence of my critics.
I am surrounded by the music that You have created for me.
It will follow me all the days of my life.
I will continually praise the Lord with my music forever.

I give God the glory and the praise for what He has done in my life.
